Real Estate

Real Estate

A real estate career can be lucrative depending on where you live in the country. Don’t get wrong a real estate agent can make great money no matter where you live.

However, there are some parts of the country where the current housing market is on fire and the price of houses is crazy high. I don’t recommend packing up and moving to these areas just to start your real estate career.

Where you live is a great place to start. There are some cons that most agents will not openly share with you. To start with the start-up costs will put a hit on your pocketbook.

First, there is the cost of training and licensing. When you get licensed you need to find a broker to work with. In most cases, monthly desk fees, and technology fees are usually charged by the broker you work for.

With that in mind, you will need marketing materials. For example, business cards, and Marketing Flyers just to start. After all, no one knows who you are.

Because no one really knows you and what you do you could easily spend thousands of dollars getting set up as a Realtor. One thing that I noticed as a Realtor, is that every day someone will call you with the latest and great way to attract leads for your new career.

These leads are not FREE by the way. Depending on how you go about getting started you could plan on spending around $2000 per month buying leads.

But hey you have to spend money to make money right. What I have found most companies that call with the latest and greatest lead generation really doesn’t have anything special.

You will valuable time chasing these leads with very little results. One last bout a career as a real estate agent, as with all legitimate careers results do not happen overnight. It takes a couple of years to start making a decent income.

Financial Advisor

Financial Advisor

Although licensing is hard becoming a financial advisor is a perfect job for you. More than likely you have a circle of friends that you have collected over the years.

This is a perfect start to building your financial advisor business. You can start by joining a company then venturing off on your own once your license and skills are in place.

Sell Insurance

I realize that life insurance is probably not a hot sexy topic but the truth is everyone needs it and very few people have it. That is to say, you should have a large database to start with. Since selling insurance is a people game you can easily turn past friendships into new clients.

There are several different types of insurance that can be sold. However, life insurance has the largest passive income payout. In most cases, depending on the company you work for, the first year the customer signs up pays the most of your commission.

Drive a Truck

Drive A Truck

Depending on what your job was in the military you might already have a CDL license. If not then your GI Bill will pay for the training.

Driving a truck is a great way to not only see the country but, make a good living as well. Even if you don’t want to travel across the country there are many local routes that are in need of CDL drivers.

This good paying job can pay better if you own your own truck and trailer. Truck drivers are in great demand and will always be needed no matter what the economy is doing.

Final Thoughts

As you can see I have laid out some of the best jobs for retired veterans. Although this list is not complete it should provide you with some thought-provoking ideas of a direction to work towards.

Your opportunities are limitless when comes to your new career. You have learned skills that most people will never know. My suggestion is to sit down and think about what you want to be when you grow up?

I have found after a lot of trial and error that I love working for myself more than I liked working for someone else. If that is something you are thinking about, be prepared to push hard and never give up.

You have been practicing this motto of never giving up for a long time now it is time to put this thought to work for you.
