Lifeisms – How To Get Motivated For Success Now
I am not sure if Lifeism is actually a word but, it was the best way to describe my thoughts for this article. So, I will adapt this word as my own for now.
I define the word lifeism as quotes or sayings that motivate me or someone else. On the other hand, the word Success is more or less described by the user of the word.
That is to say, you may have a different idea of what success looks like than I do.
For example, some days it is not about the amount of money I bring home, but what I did to better myself or someone else. If I can help someone today, I have made myself a better person. Therefore, today was a success.
Another thought I have about success, is I attempt to learn something new every day. That again equates to success for me. I realize that it may not make sense, but I have a different way of measuring success.
So, to be honest, I am not sure where I am going with this. So hopefully this article will make sense to you or help you in some way.
I see this as ever-changing because I am always reading self-help books. I do get a lot of quotes, “lifeisms if you will”, from the books that I read.
My disclaimer is that a lot of quotes that I have I may not know who wrote them. Due to my picking out nuggets from everything I read from Facebook to novels.
That said, I will give as much credit to the author that I can. However, should I miss one please feel free to let me know and I will gladly correct any mistakes?
Success or being successful is a lifetime accomplishment. You can’t simply wake up tomorrow to instant success. To clarify, success needs to be constantly worked at on a daily basis. You need goals in order to measure success. Which, leads me to my first Lifeism.
Every time I face a difficult task or my kids are struggling with something I simply ask ” How do you eat an elephant?”
An elephant is quite large in scale, however, If you eat it one bite at a time eventually you will consume the entire elephant.
So, as you face a difficult challenge by breaking it into little chunks and the task is now manageable.
“Regardless of what is happening around you, there is a part of you that’s strong. Call on that part of you. The part of you that’s hungry. The part of you that is courageous in the face of unfathomable fear. The part of you that won’t put up with excuses, smallness, and bullshit. Call that part of you forth- call that part of you to step up to become what you were MADE for.” – Tony Robbins
The word fear in itself is just an ugly word no matter how you use it. Fear will completely consume you if you let it. Although, there are many definitions of the word fear,
I learned a great definition of fear from my pastor many years ago. Fear is “False Evidence Appearing Real”. Meaning, it is a lie. Now don’t get me wrong I need to say that to myself every day.
Because even though I know fear is not real it will still consume me if I allow it. So what are you afraid of? Think about it for just a second.
What has stopped you from taking the next step whatever that step might be? Is it asking for that promotion, Is it stepping out on your own to work for yourself, is it asking your girlfriend to marry you, or is it a toxic relationship that you need to get out of?
You see deep down you are afraid of the next steps. I am in almost everything I do. Fear has stopped even the greatest of men at some point or another.
“What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate” We have all heard this statement or used in some form or fashion. This memorable line from the movie Cool Hand Luke.
How about this “Failure is not an option” – Gene Kranz from the Apollo 13 Moon landing mission.
I could find quotes on failure all day. But, that is not my point here. Failure is another word that will cripple your thoughts very quickly. Failure is simply a point of view. No, I am not crazy, You see, sometimes you need to fail in order to succeed.
If you fail at something you didn’t achieve your goal, that is all failure is. Not achieving a goal. Whoever sets the goal controls the word failure.
I have failed many times, In fact, almost daily. I set goals daily and I rarely achieve the success of reaching my goals. So by definition, I failed when I don’t reach my goals. On the other hand, if I lower my expectations of myself and change my goals to something achievable then I will always succeed at nothing.
With that said, if I kept the thought of failing close to me I would consider myself a complete failure. Now, I might be a mess but I am by no means a failure. I will leave this right here. “If you fail to start something you will never have known success”.
Most of you don’t know me personally. However, I will let you in on a little secret that I try to keep under control. The 2 words “I Can’t” are the fastest way to flip my switch on.
By saying you can’t do something is defined as you didn’t try, or you don’t want to try. I understand that you more than likely can’t build a rocket ship. However, you will never know unless you try.
There is always a solution to a problem if you solicit the proper help. Keep in mind if you can’t build a rocket ship it only means that you haven’t been trained to build one.
So, if you can’t do something you are part of the problem. My lifeism here is, “you are either part of the problem or part of the solution. You can’t be both”.
When I was in the Navy I would always tell the people that worked for me don’t present a problem that you don’t have a solution to. It might not be the correct solution. However, you are at least trying to solve a problem. You are not giving up.
In a nutshell
I keep a few quotes on my desk that help motivate me each and every day
“You can’t have a million-dollar dream with a minimum-wage work ethic.” – Stephen C. Hogan
“If not now, when?” – Hillel the Elder
Make each day your masterpiece “success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming” – John Wooden
“Success is never owned, it is rented, and the rent is due every day.”- Rory Vaden
One last quote that means the most and keeps me going on a minute by minute basis is ” I have a Hero I call him Pop-Pop” – Unknown.
See this one is special because my grandson calls me Pop-Pop and everything I do is because of him. I started this article by wanting to emphasize the meaning of success.
I try to instill that success is a frame of mind in my children and more importantly in my grandson.
You made have needed to read something here and perhaps that is the purpose of the article. But truth be told, I needed to write this article today for myself.
You see in order to succeed in anything you want to accomplish you need a why. That “why” needs to be strong enough to carry you through the darkest days and the hardest tasks.
I can quote sayings all day I can print them off and plaster the walls. However, without my why it simply doesn’t matter.
When is the last time you defined your “why”. Why do you get up each day and go to work? Is it as simple as I need the money?
I will leave you with this the stronger your why the more desire you have for success. You need to define your definition of success and your deepest why. I promise you will never be the same.
I truly hope that I have left something here for you. As I said I think I needed to write this for myself. But, I do hope that you can take something from this and make something for yourself.
I am sure that I could have spent hours upon hours coming up with other motivational quotes. However, I feel that I made my point.
You owe it to yourself to be the best you can be at everything you do. Life is too short to sit on a fence and watch it pass by.
