Hi guys, today I want to break down some marketing strategies for small businesses that you need to work on now in order to survive 2021.
It is no secret that most small businesses fail within the first five years. Have you ever wondered why?
If you are a small business owner then you know as well as I do why most businesses fail.
A lot of times a business owner gets so caught up in his business that he tends to overlook some of the small mundane tasks that can help bring in customers.
If you are one of these business owners my heart goes out to you. You are not alone even though you feel like it.
I personally have had a business fail after 2 years of blood, sweat, and tears.
So what are some strategies that can help grow your business and make it bulletproof even in hard times like a global pandemic?
Today I am going to list some key strategies that can help. most can be done with little or no money.
However, they will take precious time that you probably already feel you don’t have.
If you check out my video above I will break down each marketing strategy one by one so that you might get a better understanding of what you can do.
But before you go I want to share a story with you about a struggling food truck. I live in a neighborhood that is fairly large in size and every week we schedule a food truck to come in and park in the front of the neighborhood by the pool.
Struggling Food Truck
One week recently, we had a new truck that we scheduled. As I approached the area I found a tent set up instead of a truck.
As I was talking to the owner while I was waiting for my food to be prepared. I asked him how long he had been in business.
His answer surprised me a bit. He told me he has been in business for 8 years.
However, he shared with me that he was really struggling and did not know if he was going to make it or not. His business was wood-fired pizzas.
So, then his wife spoke out and asked me to please tell all of the neighbors to come to the truck because I was the first customer of the day.
So I asked what time did you get here she said we were ready to cook at 3 pm.
I said ok then told her that the trucks are usually scheduled from 5 to 730pm so that they were a little early and some neighbors would come out soon.
Now here is where the story gets interesting. I asked the owner if he had any signs on the highway that passes by our neighborhood to let passer-by cars know that you are set up here.
He said no that he didn’t think of that.
Moral of the Story
So, the moral of my story is he sat there for 2 hours waiting on customers while over a thousand cars passed by without knowing he was there.
By the way, he had 2 employees along with him and his wife. Now, if you remember at the beginning of the article I mentioned getting caught up in your business and looking over small tasks that can help.

The key is to get a website up and running and just like your business plan make it a living document that is constantly evolving.
SEO or search engine optimization is simply optimizing your website for a search engine to find your website or business when someone is looking for what your business does.
Sounds easy right? Well, the truth is it can be if you understand how a search engine works.
Search engines like Google and Bing pride themselves on customer experience.
The intent is to find the exact thing someone is searching for.
As you know the internet is a vast space with an infinite amount of information.
That is to say, the search engines need to use keywords to help with the search experience.
So in a nutshell, optimizing your website with keywords that match what your business provides will help search engines direct your customer to you.
If you use local keywords along with your business keywords you will reach a local base of customers.
For example, Instead of Jimmy’s Food Truck, you might use Jimmy’s Food Truck in Mobile.
By focusing on your local area with keywords you narrow your audience search to your local area.
So, how do you find keywords? You can start by searching here to find free keywords for your business.
Writing blogs on your business is a great way to drive customers to your website for free.
Imagine being able to tell a customer about your product prior to them entering your business.
That is what you can accomplish with the use of blogs. Remember the internet’s basic purpose is to provide information.
If you can contribute to that information the search engines will naturally drive traffic to your website.
You don’t have to be a great writer to write a blog. You can easily add a blog section to your website.
YouTube has become the next greatest thing on the internet. not only can you watch entertainment you can find information on anything subject you want.
How-to videos can provide your customer’s answers to whatever questions they have.
The best part is once you complete a video and post it on YouTube it is available forever.
YouTube is a great way to interact with current and new customers.
By making quick videos on your business’s expertise you will show your customers you are an authority figure in your marketplace.
Social Media has become the lifeblood for a lot of people.
With over a billion users on just Facebook alone, you have the potential to reach a large audience for your business.
To be successful in business today you need to include social interaction through social media.
By posting regularly about yourself and your business you will show a personal side that your customers will start looking for.
Branding is more than buying hats and t-shirts.
While having a business hat and t-shirt may be important to your brand, however, there is more to it than that.
Your brand is everything to your business from color selection to fonts used in advertising.
Your logo should be included on everything including your social media, website, YouTube, and whatever marketing materials that you use.
By keeping the same color scheme thought out your marketing your customers will soon recognize your business just by seeing a color.
That is powerful marketing.
My final marketing strategy for today is email.
I am not sure about you but a get a ton of emails every day and just like the mail, this delivered from the post office most of my emails are junk.
I delete 95% of my emails from just looking at the subject.
With that said, my question is do you collect a customer’s email when they do business with you.
If not why not?
Again back to branding, if you are branding your company with logos, font, and colors when you send a branded email to your customer chances are they will notice and read your email.
This means that you can utilize this strategy to sell directly to your customers via a simple template email anytime you wish.
Remember, you can not abuse this trust with your customer or they will unsubscribe to your emails.
Do not I repeat do not sell or trade your customer’s email to anyone.
Use your golden egg email list for only your business.
I covered some great marketing strategies for small businesses today that can be accomplished for little or no money.
If you can include even just one of these strategies for your business you will be able to increase your customers and have a leg up on your competition.
